RUNNER LINERS

by Elmer Millenbach

Runner aligners may be made extremely accurate by using this simple "Line of Sight" method. Material is optional, but illustration is of 1/8" x 24" x 24" aluminum with 1/2" x 1/2" bars for runner guides. Heel stops are 2" x 2" aluminum angle.

Mount bars to plates, and make saw slots for runners 1/4" deep equal distance from outside edge. Heel stops to have sighting holes to align with runner slots.

Pins for alignment string may be round head wood screws, bottomed out to end of thread and dressed off flush on bottom side. Added pins are for excess string storage.

Procedure for making alignment marks where plates meet is as follows:

Mount plates as illustrated on a bench, or boards between saw horses. Clamp or temporarily fasten one plate firmly and sight in runner slots to a mark on a wall 10 feet or more distant. Black tape 1/4" x 3/4" does nicely for this purpose. Measure distance between rear runner slots and place another mark on the wall the same distance apart as the rear runner slots. Sight in remaining plate making sure trailing edges of plates are even where they meet. Mount strings as illustrated and make marks where string crosses between plates. A scribed line, punch mark or 1/16" hole will suffice.
